As most of you already know by know, Matthew Perry, or “Matty” as some of his closest friends would call him, recently and tragicly passed away at the age of 54 on October 28, 2023 due to cardiac arrest. At Movie.Report, Friends is without question our most watched (and re-watched) show of all time, mostly because it is one of those shows that no matter what mood you are in when you start watching, you are sure to be in a little bit better mood afterwards! And of course, this is in no small part due to the contribution of Matthew Perry as part of a lovable cast with so much on-screen chemistry together.
Matthew will forever be remembered for his masterfully played role as Chandler Bing on Friends, but he was also known as an outstanding actor in a multitude of other TV and Movie roles as well. At Movie.Report we are saddened by the loss of this comedic giant at such a young age, and wanted to take the time to remember 12 of our most loved Matthew Perry Movies of all time. As our 12th favorite Matthew Perry movie of all time, Almost Heroes features not one but two comedic giants (that will both be missed) in the lead roles: Matthew Perry & Chris Farley!
Almost Heroes is a comedy film that stars Matthew Perry as a bumbling explorer named Leslie Edwards. Set in the 1800s, the movie follows Leslie and his partner, Bartholomew Hunt, played by Chris Farley, as they embark on a journey to beat Lewis and Clark in exploring the uncharted American West.
Leslie, an eccentric and somewhat clueless cartographer, believes that his maps will lead him to fame and glory. He enlists the help of Hunt, a rugged wilderness expert, to guide him through the treacherous terrain. However, the duo’s contrasting personalities and constant misadventures make for a comedic and chaotic expedition.
As Leslie and Hunt make their way across the wild and untamed wilderness, they encounter a series of challenges and obstacles. From facing hostile Native American tribes to surviving dangerous wildlife encounters, the duo’s incompetence often leads them into hilarious and precarious situations.
Along the way, Leslie and Hunt meet a variety of eccentric characters who add to the comedic chaos. These include a French trapper named Guy Fontenot, played by Eugene Levy, and an attractive Native American woman named Shaquinna, portrayed by Lisa Barbuscia. The interactions between the characters provide additional comedy and moments of lightheartedness.
As the film progresses, Leslie and Hunt’s friendship is tested, and they must learn to rely on each other’s strengths to overcome the odds. Despite their numerous failures and constant setbacks, the duo’s determination and resilience ultimately lead them closer to their goal.
